Whether you’re a novice art lover or a seasoned expert, come and enjoy a drink, snack, live music and have a #differentnightout exploring our central Christchurch galleries.

Art About lets you explore the Christchurch art scene with free hop-on hop-off shuttle buses, while also launching of the updated 2019 Christchurch Art Map (designed by Jessica Tabke).

5:30pm – A talk on Gordon Walters by Professor Laurence Simmons (Media and Communication, University of Auckland).

CoCA:
Pop along to CoCA to catch Pauline Rhodes ‘Time Ongoing’ in it’s last week with us! Showing alongside Mitchell Bright’s ‘Cultivated’, Viv Wotton’s ‘…lost in Aotearoa’ and Emma Wallbanks’ ‘As Other, Original Unknown’. Come for the art, stay for a drink – cash bar will be open!

Chambers:
Chambers will have an eclectic exhibition, from artists Rebecca Stewart, Sarha Garland, and Liam Dangerfield in the main gallery space. A comprehensive stockroom with established and emerging artists works.
Our studio spaces will be open, and our resident artists will be happy to have a chat with you about their work.

Nadene Milne Gallery:
Nadene Milne Gallery will have on display a selection of new paintings by Max Gimblett ONZM

Windsor Gallery:
Joel Hart will be exhibiting on the evening of the Art About and will be present to discuss the inspiration behind his work and the creative process with Art Collectors. We will also be exhibiting work from over 30 other artists we represent!

Jonathan Smart Gallery:
Please join us at Jonathan Smart Gallery for “A Dictionary of Sanjay’s Modern Painting” – Sanjay Theodore. Jonathan will be speaking about the show at 6:30pm, and we will have a selection of craft beer from our friends, local micro-brewery The Fermentist. We look forward to seeing you then.

City Art Depot
We’ll have our first exhibition for 2019 on display, Green Field, Grey Field by Francis van Hout! And our upstairs stock gallery with work by emerging and contemporary New Zealand artists will be open too.

Central Art Gallery
The Central Art Gallery is currently exhibiting an Object Show. A makers’ showcase – out comes a pounamu head by Jon Jeet, stunning glassworks by Ann Robinson and Emma Camden, sequined gourds by Rueben Paterson and more. This show has been critiqued as mesmorising – a must see!

Transport:
This year there will be shuttles running from 5:30pm to 10pm with an early shuttle leaving the fine arts school in Ilam at 4:40pm. The shuttle timetable is yet to be confirmed.
