Blue Smoke welcomes you to ‘The Sunday Sit Down Get Down’ our very own folk club event. We present local luminaries and national touring artist of the finest calibre, this is a first rate opportunity to catch a matinee concert with family and friends.

The music always starts at 4pm so make sure you come early to get settled in. There is a suggested ‘Koha’ entry for this event, we encourage you to support the musicians and pay what you can afford.

Bryony Matthews is pleased to announce her nationwide tour after the release of her debut album Little Queen.

The crafted songwriting and purity of vision of Little Queen places her firmly in the upper stratum of NZ’s alt folk music scene.

Bryony Matthews is a Christchurch based singer/songwriter by way of Golden Bay. Matthews grew up in a creative musical household – her Dad, an African drummer and marimba player, her Mother, a poet and her brothers both musicians. Picking up a guitar at 14, Matthews has been writing and performing, shedding fears, gaining confidence and honing her skills, plus acquiring a collection of talented musicians to back her.

Matthews writes unique, considered, lyrics-focused folk-pop offerings, with her band lending an upbeat ambiance to the songs. Case in point is lead single ‘Voices’; whilst the lyrics exhibit angst and confusion, the instrumentation picks it up and turns it into an upbeat, danceable track. Guitarist Adam Hattaway lends a beautifully distinctive lead guitar riff, with drummer Aj Park grounding the song with a swinging beat.

Second single ‘Alexander’ is an unabashed love song. Matthews’ catchy double tracked vocals punctuate warm washes of electric guitar propelled by buoyant percussion. Matthews enlisted Dictaphone Blues front man Eddie Castelow to produce the album, bringing fellow musicians Park and Hattaway along for the ride.
