Fiksate is excited to present:
*** COLLECTION*banal a solo exhibition by Kara Burrowes****
Kara’s artwork has been grounded in the urban landscape and her interpretation of it for quite some time. Many will be familiar with her layered works consisting of vertically placing found and reused pieces of timber or other materials.
COLLECTION*banal explores the everyday urban landscape of Christchurch city in the years post earthquake through photography and multimedia applications. Not obvious images of landmarks but incidental happenings, mundane, overlooked capturings. These images are translated onto a surface and worked into so that the original images and the additions are one and the same and can’t be distinguished. This is much in the same way as Kara’s personal Instagram images are presented, it’s difficult to tell which are photographic images and which are created artworks. There’s an emphasis on nostalgia and preservation and a desire to capture that which is deemed irrelevant.
Opening FRIDAY 24th May – 5pm – 9:30pm.
COLLECTION*banal will run through to Saturday June 22nd 2019.
Visit our website or FB page for opening hours.
