Nigel Wearne + Jenny Mitchell at the Sunday Sit Down

September 3, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm NZST

$15

Australian singer-songwriter Nigel Wearne crosses the ditch this August for his first tour of New Zealand. Spanning Auckland in the north to Gore in the south, he’ll spend 2 weeks on the road touring his current album ‘Drawing Circles’.

New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards winner and rising talent, Jenny Mitchell joins the tour for four special shows (*south island). Hailing from Gore, Jenny’s love of country, folk, and Americana shines through on her debut album ‘The Old Oak’.

Blue Smoke welcomes you to ‘The Sunday Sit Down Get Down’ our very own folk club event. We present local luminaries and national touring artist of the finest calibre, this is a first rate opportunity to catch a matinee concert with family and friends.

Our doors open at 3pm and the music always starts at 4pm so make sure you come early to get settled in.

There is a suggested ‘Koha’ entry for this event we encourage you to support the musicians and pay what you can afford.

Equipped with personally handcrafted guitars, Nigel Wearne melds finger-style guitar, clawhammer banjo, folk and honest storytelling. Gleaning diverse influence from Kelly Joe Phelps, Townes Van Zandt and Sun Kil Moon, he tells stories of forgotten rebels, wandering poets and his love of eggs.

‘Drawing Circles’ is a solo record that’s raw, compelling and reflective. With songs born of shadows and lucid reveries, the 14-song double album explores the dark corners of creativity and the irregular swells of life. A storyteller at heart, Wearne paints lyrical pictures with frayed poetic edges and “the narrative-fuelled prose of Paul Kelly” – Beat Magazine. “One of Australia’s emerging songwriters”- Tone Deaf. “Warmth flecked with grit… beauty awaits” 4 Stars – Rolling Stone Australia.
