STEVE ABEL AT THE SUNDAY SIT DOWN

July 30, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm NZST

Steve Abel presents an afternoon of song and poetry at our much loved ‘Sunday Sit Down Get Down’ session. He will be joined by a special guest (to be announced soon).

Steve Abel was raised in the halcyon haze of oil poor 1970?s and 80?s New Zealand.

“Abel is a refined writer whose lyrics have a bone-bare quality – the sound of someone writing and singing from a place where there is no guile, just hard truth and clear eyes.” – Graham Reid

“Steve Abel’s part of cultural thing…which is a little bit about the reinvention of New Zealand. His music, its threads…it ties in with Tom Waits and all this stuff in America, but…there’s also something that’s been plucked out of Northland, some sort of seam or reality that’s been pulled out of the northern Wairoa river that’s just outside Dargaville.” – Poet Greg O’Brien on Radio New Zealand National

“A mixture of the sparseness and cut throat honesty of Will Oldham and the dark, haunting lyrics of Nick Cave. The songwriting and musicianship is outstanding, talent.” – youcrazydreamers.com

“An impact that borders on the visual…arrant musical hypnosis…” – William Dart of Radio New Zealand’s Concert FM
