The Drum Festival

A weekend of drum and dance performance and workshops including Doug Brush, Ra McCrostie, Koffie Fugah, Chintongo, and Japanese Drum Group Takumi. Set in the lush bush of Manaia Native Habitat at Little River Campground, at the gateway to Banks Peninsula. Stay at the camp for $15/night and enjoy the 5h of native bush and small stream.
FRIDAY
7:00 – Kofi Fugah- African Drum and Dance workshop
9:00 – Jam at the Okuti Old School.
SATURDAY
10:00 – Dun Dun Dance – Dance and play drums at the same time! with Monica Evans
11:15 – Dekaworwor – African Rhythms and Songs
12:30 – RA McRostie – African inspired contemporary tribal dance and music and traditional west African rhythm and dance
1:45 – Christchurch School Of Music Samba Band – Carnival Rhythms from Brazil
2:15 – Christchurch Community African Drum Class with Tamara Smith’s Dance Class Under the direction of Doug Brush, class will play traditional African rhythms.
2:45 – Doug and Nina of Free Spirit Dance and Music – Samba Drum and Dance workshop
3:30 – Koffie Fugah – African drumming
4:15 – Doug Brush – Doug and some of his students perform awesome Afro-Cuban drumming and chant
5:00- Chitango – African marimba performance by a very talented family from Zimbabwe
7:30 – Random Acts of Music – Under the walnut Trees, using accessible instruments, RAM sets up a groove and some basic guidance to bring anyone willing into a group music making session
8:00 – World Music concert at the Hilltop Tavern. Latin party with Los Farsantes

SUNDAY
9:30 – Tim Sellars and Hanel Nabil – Arabic music performance
10:15 – Arabic drum and dance workshop

11:30 – Koffie Fugah. Koffie, from Ghana, will give an African drum and dance workshop He’s incredible so come learn from one of the best
1:00 – All Star Jam- Kofi, Ra, Doug
2:00 – Takumi – Spectacular grand finale with the incredible power of Japanese Taiko drumming
