SUMMARY:Foundations
DESCRIPTION:The Music Managers Forum Aotearoa (MMF) is proud to announce FOUNDATIONS\, a refreshed evolution of its long running Back to Basics seminar series. Presented in collaboration with Ka Korokī Ka Maranga | Māori Music Industry Collective\, FOUNDATIONS is a free two hour workshop for artists and self managers in the early stages of building a music career. \nFor this session\, we will be joined by Mikee Carpenter (Manager – Georgia Lines) and Minnie Robberds (Artist\, There’s A Tuesday) \nSECURE YOUR SPOT HERE: https://www.mmf.co.nz/news-pages/2026/7/16/vgjzb0thbu20b6fey3l2uvqk9ihm51 \nFOUNDATIONS was born out of a moment of reflection for MMF. With the loss of long time Back to Basics presenter Lorraine Barry in 2025\, the team felt it was the right time to relook at the programme she had shaped for so many years. Lorraine was a dedicated advocate for emerging artists and managers\, and FOUNDATIONS carries her commitment to helping the next generation navigate the industry with confidence. \nThe workshop covers the building blocks every artist needs from day one\, including the NZ music ecosystem and funding pathways\, rights and royalties\, finding and growing a real fanbase\, releasing music with a team around you\, understanding the business side of the industry\, patience in building a career\, and the financial realities of a life in music. Each section is followed by open Q&A\, giving attendees the chance to bring their own questions to experienced guests. \n“Lorraine Barry was a mentor to me for over eight years and someone I always turned to for advice\, as well as being a great friend. It’s an honour to carry on the work she was so passionate about in artist development\, on behalf of the MMF.” – Mikee Carpinterp[a \n

SUMMARY:Brain Storm - A Musical Journey of Recovery by Bryony Matthews
DESCRIPTION:Brain Storm is an immersive live music and storytelling experience exploring the realities of traumatic brain injury and the long road to recovery. Created by Ōtautahi singer songwriter Bryony Matthews\, the show weaves together original songs\, personal storytelling\, and evocative visuals to share a deeply human story of loss\, resilience\, and adaptation. Drawing on Bryony’s own experience of life-changing head trauma\, Brain Storm offers a rare and honest glimpse into the often-unseen challenges of living with an acquired brain injury. Featuring music from Bryony’s upcoming concept album\, the performance unfolds across six chapters\, tracing a journey through injury\, uncertainty\, healing\, and renewal. Atmospheric soundscapes and intimate storytelling combine to create an experience that is both deeply personal and widely relatable. Moving\, insightful\, and ultimately hopeful\, Brain Storm invites audiences to step into a world rarely spoken about and gain a deeper understanding of the realities of living with brain injury. \nMusic written by Bryony Matthews \nSoundscapes by Joshua Holmes \nVisuals by Nicholas Ahu \n

SUMMARY:Hanne Jøstensen The Lighthouse Winter Tour
DESCRIPTION:Wellington singer-songwriter Hanne Jøstensen’s delicate and stirring songs carry the sort of intimacy you find in a good friendship. Her intricate second EP ‘The Lighthouse’\, released in autumn 2026\, reached #10 on the Aotearoa Album Chart and spent three weeks in the top 20. Hanne’s music navigates her unique upbringing on a tiny Norwegian island (where her grandfather was a lighthouse keeper)\, woven into modern day life on the wild south coast of Aotearoa. She is celebrating the release of ‘The Lighthouse’ with a winter tour of up-close concerts in the lower north & the south. \n“It carries a sense of stillness balanced with emotional depth\, creating space for the listener without demanding attention.” Vidhhi Panchal\, NZ Musician. \n“The Lighthouse is a thoughtfully and gracefully composed EP\, with moments of breathtaking beauty.” Peter K Malthus\, MuzicNZ. \nThis Lyttelton concert will be a solo performance where you’ll experience the songs the way they were composed\, on keyboard and voice. Hanne will also perform songs from her debut EP ‘Watch over me’\, sprinkled with the occasional cover by artists that have had a significant influence on her songwriting. \nThere will be a break between the two sets so you can top up your glass\, socialise\, and buy/order some merch! \nBring your lighthouse stories and come be part of this special evening at this iconic Lyttelton venue. \nWelcome! \nTickets via Humanitix and linktr.ee/hannejostensen \n

DESCRIPTION:OPIUO returns to Christchurch after a 4 year hiatus. \nJoin us for a funk fuelled basstastic evening of good vibes and tasty sonic treats at the Sydenham Underpass – Friday 14 August. DOORS at 2000. \nOpiuo is a genre-bending plethora of auditory and visual masterclasses. Born in 1984 in ruralNew Zealand\, his parents provided the land upon which music festivals were held. This extremely formative growth surrounded by the early incarnations of Aotearoa’s electronic music scene exposed him to the celebration of life through self-expression\, dance\, and giant soundsystems. These experiences shaped so much of who he is & what he stands for today. Positivity and movement at the core of the project\, his music is an infectious electronic based blend of funk\, soul\, psychedelia\, and booty-shaking bass. \nNow calling Australia home\, Oscar tours his party-starting music throughout the globe. Havingspent more than a decade performing at some of the world’s most renowned festivals and venues including Lollapalooza\, Glastonbury\, and Coachella\, as well as selling out Colorado’s famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre multiple times\, he’s performed his music in an unimaginably large array of formats. From self-built Orchestras\, to collaborating with symphony choirs\, touring his own Opiuo Band\, and as an immersive solo audio & visual show\, his live creativity is limitless. \nTaking home the New Zealand Music Award for Best Electronic Album in 2014\, his catalogue isvast. Having released 6 full-length albums\, 10 EPs\, and a myriad of singles and remixes overthe last 14 years. In his own words\, he is still “just getting started!”. \n

SUMMARY:Born Under Punches w/ YEA
DESCRIPTION:Born Under Punches is a new ensemble comprised of improvisers Reuben Derrick\, Theo Henderson and Reece McNaughten. Together they will play quiet sounds\, loud sounds\, gentle sounds\, crude sounds\, wise sounds\, foolish sounds… sounds brought screaming into the world\, sounds abandoned in the dark\, sounds raised up into the terrible light. \nY.E.A is the experimental sonic culmination of two musician doppelgangers taking a stab at a miasma of local social afflictions\, shared observations of sardonic hedonism in the information age\, humorously reckless irony\, and a friendship found in high melanin counts all whilst steezed up in overalls and a pair of polarised shades. \n
