SUMMARY:Greta O'Leary And Neive Strang
DESCRIPTION:Join Greta O’Leary (Tāmaki Makaurau/AKL) and Neive Strang (Ōtepoti/DUN) for an evening of indie folk music as they perform their most recent releases\, River Dark and Find Me in the Rabbit Hole. Greta will be accompanied by guitarist/vocalist Will McGillivray\, and Neive\, by guitarist/vocalist Kiera Wallace. \nNeive Strang\nNeive Strang is an indie folk musician based in Ōtepoti/Dunedin. She creates warm\, thoughtful\, and emotional music informed by themes of change\, mental health\, love\, and whānau/family. Neive’s music is akin to artists like Julia Jacklin\, lucinda Williams and Waxahatche. Like these artists\, her songwriting is written through personal experience and observation. \nHer music often feels introspective and intimate\, with songs that spend time in complicated feelings. With a sensitivity to narrative and imagery\, Neive’s lyrics outline a feeling of relatability. Blended with soaring vocals and an ethereal production\, her lyrics continue to bind and warm the listener. \nHer most recent release\, Find Me in the Rabbit Hole\, continues this world of vulnerable storytelling and textured indie folk. Though Neive hasn’t performed live recently\, her work remains rooted in connection and the quiet power of being understood. \nGreta O’Leary\nTāmaki Makaurau songsmith Greta O’Leary writes with a surrealist clarity of vision\, the line between art and artist\, self and image – is razor thin. Raised on rolling hills in northern New Zealand\, and coming of age anywhere but here\, O’Leary is a writer with her own lens and language. Her breakthrough debut album ‘River Dark’ was released in 2025\, landing at #9 on the Aotearoa Album Charts and toured throughout NZ and Australia. \n‘Serene with a sting in the tail’ – Tony Stamp. Greta’s arresting debut record was created alongside producer Jol Mulholland at LAB Studios\, with Greta’s hypnotic songwriting and unmistakable vocals accentuated through the skillful musicianship of instrumentalists Cass Basil (Tiny Ruins\, The Veils)\, Alastair Deverick (Come Together Band)\, Callum Passells (Hans Pucket\, Aldous Harding) and Anita Clark (Don McGlashan\, Nadia Reid). \nGreta’s voice is ‘imbued with earthy\, smokey tones’\, ‘reminiscent of a hāngī pit’ – Under The Radar (NZ). After establishing herself as a rising figure in Aotearoa’s folk and alternative communities\, Greta received an APRA Artist Mentoring Programme Award\, leading to collaborations with producer Tom Healy (Marlon Williams\, Folk Bitch Trio). She has performed on several successful tours across Aotearoa\, Te Waipounamu and Australia\, while making appearances at Newtown Festival\, Earthbeat\, Performance Arcade\, Wellington Gardens Magic Festival\, and Te Papa’s Rongo Rehutai Summer Music Sessions alongside Vera Ellen. \nGreta’s dreamlike album featured the singles\, ‘Baby I’m a Singer’ and ‘Baptised at the Desktop Computer’ – both of which spent weeks in the SRN Top 10 (both peaking at #1)\, with the latter reaching #1 on RadioScope’s Alt Chart. The album received heavy support from RNZ\, Rolling Stone AU/NZ\, PBS Melbourne and the student radio network stations\, and featured coverage in Coup De Main and airplay on RadioX UK (2.5mil weekly listeners). Greta toured River Dark through winter 2025 this winter\, with 10 dates acrossin Aotearoa and Melbourne\, joined by members of her stellar live band Jol Mulholland (Anika Moa\, Neil Finn)\, Nava Tekela-Pule (Erny Belle\, LEAO)\, Amy Borovich (Anna Coddington) and Alistair Deverick\, and was invited to open for Australian folk and blues legend C.W. Stoneking on his NZ tour late in 2025. \nGreta collaborates and performs across Aotearoa and Australia\, receives consistent pressure to get into stand-up and is in studio at present working on a very new chapter \n

SUMMARY:Welcomer - Calendars Release Tour w/ Pickle Darling and Model Home
DESCRIPTION:Welcomer are embarking on their first nationwide headline tour to celebrate the release of their debut album Calendars\, out June 12 via trusted DIY stalwarts\, Papaiti Records. \nCalendars follows a string of European shows in 2025 and a self titled EP which was described by Under the Radar as ‘melancholic splendour.. in swirls of harmonious goodness\, each packed with presence and perfectly placed’. Single Nothing of You Remaining was described by Rolling Stone AU as “blending folk influences with strings for a warm\, layered pop sound”. \nJoined in Ōtautahi by Pickle Darling and Model Home \nPickle Darling is the project of Christchurch-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Lukas Mayo. After years of touring on previous albums\, Bigness (2019)\, Cosmonaut (2021)\, and Laundromat (2023)\, and supporting artists like Lucy Dacus and The Beths\, Pickle Darling’s latest album\, latest record ‘Bots’ is a collection of songs that feel like they could only ever exist on scratched CD-Rs passed between friends. Mayo continues to garner acclaim for their ability to elevate lo-fi indie pop tunes with a rounded-out\, clean sound and a knack for building tiny\, thoughtful worlds along the way. \nModel Home are a Christchurch emo and post-rock band whose members came out of the city’s DIY scene\, with connections to Coate and Earn Your Stripes. Formed in the late 2010s\, the group blend melodic indie rock with the confessional intensity of contemporary emo\, creating music that resonates with both local and international audiences. \nTheir debut EP Model Home (2019) introduced the band’s sound. The full-length …And Nobody Made a Sound (2023)\, released on Papaiti Records and False Peak Records\, reached number eight on the New Zealand Albums Chart — a remarkable achievement for an independent release rooted in the underground.ac \n

SUMMARY:Medal\, Psychic Maps\, Negative Confessions
DESCRIPTION:Formed six years ago MEDaL are a three piece rock ‘n’ roll band that have released two vinyl albums\, gigged sporadically and largely maintained an underground presence in the bowels of Lyttelton. This may change\, but probably not… MEDaL : John Billows – Bass (Renderers\, Dark Matter)\, Dave Mulcahy – Guitar (Superette\, JPSE )\, & Mark Whyte – Drums (Into the Void) \nFormed 15 years ago Psychic Maps have finally found a stable line up after relocating from Dunedin to Christchurch city. They spend most of their time writing songs based on sonic guitar jams that they consequently never record. PMAPS: Simon Maclaren – Guitar (Subliminals\, Loves Ugly Children)\, Mike Cole – Bass (Carradine Choke\, Future Stupid)\, Dave Toland – Drums (The Playthings\, Not Really Anything) \nŌtautahi band Negative Confessions will showcase their eclectic collection of wordless and wordfull musical pieces. Incorporating elements of shoegaze and post punk rock inspired from the coastal landscape of sea and land\, the dreamscape of modern day angst of living\, and salt desert plains of adventure. \n

SUMMARY:Tess Liautaud And Band - Jolie Louise Single Release
DESCRIPTION:“Ma jolie\, how do you do?” Franco-American\, now Aotearoa’s folk-country sweetheart Tess Liautaud is releasing a new song (June 18th)\, for the first time she showcases her two mother tongues in a bilingual ballad. For this feat Tess Liautaud chose to sing ‘Jolie Louise’ written by French-Canadian singer and producer Daniel Lanois. Liautaud’s version is saturated in unbridled rawness and honesty\, she leans into the song’s lyrical heartbreak while her band roll out a country romp. It is a song that moves along and carries your heart with it. \nTo celebrate the release of ‘Jolie Louise’\, Liautaud has announced a special hometown show at Lyttelton Coffee Company\, on June 27th. Tess will be accompanied by her band\, an ever evolving alt-country ensemble featuring pedal steel\, banjo\, double bass\, shadowy guitars and soaring harmonies. Don’t miss this last ditch show before Liautaud sails away to tour her songs throughout Europe (a follow up to her successful 2025 ‘Sleepless in Europe Tour’.) \nSpecial guests Southriver will open the show with their unique blend of banjo\, guitar and old time feeling. \nAbout Southriver: Hailing from the shores of Te Whanganui a Tara alt-folk band Southriver delve into New Zealand folk music with gusto. Pairing the heartfelt lyrics of Sarah August with the slick skills of Brendan Schenk\, these two have been performing and writing together since 2021 creating a repertoire of troubled tunes for troubled times. \nAbout Tess Liautaud: The music of Franco-American\, Tess Liautaud can not be easily defined. It hangs in the balance of her voice\, warm like honey; it carries a depth of raw emotion\, delivered with melodic grace and country soul.\nHer songs are easy listening\, in that Jackson Browne\, dreaming of Laurel Canyon\, Americana sort of way\, so it would make some kind of sense that she’s found a home on the east side of Christchurch\, New Zealand\, among the folk singers and the rock’n’rollers. \nIn Paris\, Liautaud has been invited on stage to sing with Glen Hansard (La Cigale)\, Bruce Springsteen (Bercy) and more recently she opened for Tami Neilson (New Morning).\nIn New Zealand she has shared stages and collaborated with artists such as Delaney Davidson\, Jessie Shanks & Adam McGrath (The Eastern)\, Barry Saunders\, Marlon Williams\, Holly Arrowsmith and Adam Hattaway. \nFollowing sold out shows on her 12-date “Gold Digger” tour and chart topping singles “Here Go The Lovers” and “The Way It’s Meant to Rain”\, her album “Blue Mind” was released in October 2024\, through Flying Nun/Leather Jacket distribution and reached #6 in the New Zealand Top 20 Charts\, and #4 in the Independent NZ Charts. Her song ‘Gold Digger’ even made an appearance on “The Brokenwood Mysteries” TV series in 2025! \n‘Blue Mind’ garnered international critical acclaim\, and in 2025 she completed her first multi-country European tour\, aptly named ‘Sleepless in Europe’\, and received a warm welcome in Spain\, Sweden\, Holland\, UK and France\, headlining shows as well as supporting great U.S. artists such as Sarah Lee Guthrie and Ward Hayden & the Outliers. \n“Everything about Tess Liautaud’s new album Blue Mind feels warm and inviting… Liautaud makes music you can point to the next time someone asks you to define the Americana genre.” –\nBen Salmon\, Bandcamp ‘Best of Country Music’ \n“Tess Liautaud found her people in Ōtautahi\, she nestled in and quickly became a part of the region’s wider story of folk’n’country rock’n’roll. Her new album Blue Mind\, is an assured work of rootsy Canterburycana (a genre title we’re workshopping)\, featuring familiar Christchurch cohorts like Adam Hattaway\, Elmore Jones\, and Jessie Shanks\, the shining star here is Tess Liautaud’s warm and heartful voice\, riding high over her fantastic new set of songs\n– Flying Out \n“Elle a sa place dans Les Nocturnes ! Il faut l’écouter religieusement.”\n– Georges Lang\, RTL France ‘Les Nocturnes’ \n“Blending heart-rending country/folk sounds… the Ōtautahi-based Franco-American singer-songwriter’s music draws inspiration from musical legends like Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen.”\n– Sarah Downs\, Rolling Stone Australia \n

SUMMARY:Spooky Eyes (Nipaluna/Hobart) and S.E.I.S.M.I.C at Darkroom
DESCRIPTION:Two psych-rock bands from Nipaluna/Hobart\, Australia and Ōtautahi/Christchurch\, New Zealand are teaming up this winter for a touring exchange! \n03 faves S.E.I.S.M.I.C will be heading over to Hobart in May to perform at Altar Bar with Tasmanian locals Spooky Eyes\, and then in July the two bands reunite in Ōtautahi/Christchurch to perform together at Darkroom. \nAcid rock trio Spooky Eyes have been making waves across the ditch\, paying shows across Tasmania and mainland Australia alongside a stacked list of emerging and big name talent\, including support slots for the likes of Jack White and Foo Fighters \nPsych rock squadron S.E.I.S.M.I.C. will be representing Ōtautahi\, with a sound that weaves together elements of psychedelia and garage with a wall of fuzz. \nCatch the two bands live on Fri July 3rd at Darkroom! \nAbout the Band Swap:\nThis project is a collaboration between members of the music communities in Nipaluna Hobart and Ōtautahi Christchurch\, New Zealand. Participating bands pick each other up from the airport\, open their homes to each other\, take each other sight seeing\, share backline\, and more importantly share all the local insider knowledge on what makes the music community in their city so damn cool! International touring is expensive and a lot of administrative and logistical work goes into making it happen! By linking up with locals on the ground at each end\, the project helps to share the load and puts international touring in reach for emerging\, DIY bands. \nThis winter’s tour is the pilot of what could hopefully become an ongoing\, annual reciprocal touring exchange between the two cities. The pilot received a small funding contribution towards the costs associated with these shows\, but with flights and\, well\, everything else being so expensive these days the bands would love your support by buying a ticket and showing some love for this idea. If this show goes well then hopefully the touring exchange can become an ongoing\, annual project\, taking more bands between the two cities. This year’s Band Swap is all about Psych Rock\, but if the programme gets off the ground and becomes an ongoing thing\, bands of any genre are welcome to express interest and apply for the trip in future! \n

DESCRIPTION:Aotearoa Music Award-winning and Taite Award-winning artist Vera Ellen releases her new album Heaven Knows What Time. on May 1 via Flying Nun Records. Alongside the album release\, Vera Ellen returns to Aotearoa in July for a six-date national tour in celebration of Heaven Knows What Time. \nThe title Heaven Knows What Time. arrived while Vera was lying on the top bunk of a house truck in Buenos Aires\, nearly two years after writing the record and almost a year after completing the mix. After multiple working titles\, it surfaced with clarity and immediacy – less a decision than a moment of recognition. It reflects the album’s central tension: frustration and surrender to forces outside of control. As Vera describes it\, creativity cannot be demanded – it can be nurtured\, but ultimately arrives in its own time\, like a baby. \nThe album was written during a two-week songwriting residency in Greytown\, awarded through the NZ Pacific Studio Artist Residency Programme. The residency provided space and solitude away from touring and performance\, culminating in a performance at Studio 73 for fellow residents and members of the local community. \nIn her residency application\, Vera wrote: After the heaviness of Ideal Home Noise\, I feel it is pressing that I now create an uplifting record that has a guiding message of hope\, but from a matured perspective. While that intention is present\, Heaven Knows What Time. resists neat resolution\, moving through themes of love\, joy\, self-assurance\, humour\, moodiness\, and heartbreak – positioning Vera as an observer of both inner and outer worlds. \nAlongside extensive touring in Aotearoa — including the 2025 Laneway Festival — Vera has performed internationally with her band\, including a 14-date tour of China\, a sold-out run in Australia supporting Crowded House\, appearances at New Colossus Festival and SXSW (Austin and Sydney)\, and a full UK/EU support tour with Yumi Zouma. She is set to support Aldous Harding on her full UK/EU tour and perform at The Great Escape in Brighton. The Guardian described her performance as: Arising New Zealand empress Vera Ellen and band were a revelation\, a shimmering reminder that pop’n’roll can still nudge one’s soul.loo \n
