Tim Mahon (Blam Blam Blam) and his band Kerfuffle are taking their new album The Great Kerfuffle around Te Waipounamu, with their last stop in Lyttelton.
Chris Cudby from Under the Radar says, “Crammed full of ripping and gloriously scrappy post-punk tunes recorded with members of Ardijah, Newmatics and O.M.C, songs on Mahon’s new album The Great Kerfuffle could easily be confused with raw-edged classics right out of It’s Bigger Than Both of Us — an accomplishment indeed to this listener’s ears — sounding Pere Ubu-adjacent on ‘Quite Nice’, lead single ‘Vote’, and dance-punk bop ‘I’m OK’.”
As the former bass player of The Plague (1978-1979), The Whizz Kids (1979-1980), and Blam Blam Blam (1980-1982), Tim Mahon has been an integral part of these highly influential Aotearoa bands.
Behind the scenes, Mahon has also been involved witha number of initiatives which have had a long-lasting impact. He became the project manager at the Otara Music Arts Centre (OMAC) in 1987, where he got local band Bamboo signed to PolyGram, and to open the BB King/U2 show at Western Springs. At the same time producing Proud music featuring Sisters Underground and The O.M.C. Also MA-V-ELLE.
But this is back to the roots of where it all came from Kiwi rock you’ll want to wrap your arms around and rock the night away.
