Electronic band Brazilbeat Sound System originated in San Francisco, USA. Unfettered by genres, Brazilbeat’s creative output reflects a spiritual respect for Brazilian rhythms and an inextricable link to underground club culture. BBSS production style has been described in the media as “grunty”, “uplifting” and the “soundtrack to a summer beach party”.

Brazilian Percussionist Nego Beto grew up with the rhythms of Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, drumming in cultural groups and samba schools throughout his youth. He studied at the famed Villalobos music academy in Rio, and began playing in the gafiera nightclubs at an early age.

DJ Mara is Californian with a passion for global bass music that treads the nether-worlds between roots and electronic sounds.

Brazilbeat live onstage are a force to be reckoned with. Their late night sets are
legendary, explosive performances that bounce with percussion played on electronic and acoustic instruments.

Since relocating to New Zealand, Brazilbeat have inflamed festivals including Rhythm & Vines, Homegrown, Splore, Soundsplash, Sydney Harbour Festival, Cuba Street Carnival, HomeFest Samoa, Parihaka Peace Festival, Destination and Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, as well as headlining and performing in top venues.
