CHCH Big Band Fest 2018

Since the earthquakes, the Christchurch Big Band Festival holds a spectrum of music events from big name jazz legends performing full-blown concert extravaganzas, through to scores of short and FREE big band performances in pop-up locations throughout the streets of Christchurch’s CBD, featuring bands from around NZ cooking up a healthy gumbo of the classics written in the 1930’s mixed with new big band charts written… just the other day! To sum up, there will be more big bands than you can shake a drum stick at. Just sayin’.

This year’s headline act is Steve Gadd, playing in the Isaac Theatre Royal on Saturday 20 October with the Rodger Fox Big Band. Check out chchbigbandfest.com to grab your tickets to that right now and if you just can’t get enough of big bands, make sure you block the rest of Labour Weekend out to hang out in town. You’ll find big bands in cafés on New Regent Street, at the Art Gallery, in the brand new T?ranga Central Library, checking out the pop up venues, going to the dances or parties. FESTA and Latino Week will also be in the CBD making the place a great place to be, so you really have every reason to get yourself into Christchurch this Labour weekend, and have a blast!
