SUMMARY:Free Artist Development Session - Managing Burnout
DESCRIPTION:Darkroom’s Free Artist Development Series is back! Our next session is all about managing burnout\, and balancing day job life alongside your creative practice \nWednesday April 22nd at Darkroom\, 336 St Asaph St\n7pm doors\, talk starts 7:30pm\nTHERE WILL BE FREE SNACKS! \nThese sessions are peer-led\, calling on folks from our local music community to share their knowledge. This month’s guest speaker is Caelin Moore\, who is currently carrying out a part-time music industry internship\, on top of two other jobs\, while also playing in a band who are about to embark on an Australian tour. \nJuggling a day job on top of your art\, all while struggling to make ends meet and have time to do the damn dishes is probably something you’re unfortunately all too familiar with. A report* released in 2023 indicated that many Kiwi creatives are living off a median income of $37\,000 per year\, and that close to half of creatives needed to supplement their income with other work on top of their arts practice. \nWe’ll hear from Caelin about his tips for finding time for art and life on top of multiple jobs\, all while trying to keep up high moral and good mental health. We’ll talk about how to notice the warning signs of impending burnout\, and how to manage it. We invite you to share your own tips and tricks with us if you’d like to as well! \nJoin us on Wednesday April 22nd from 7pm. There will be free snacks! Plus the bar will be open if you want to buy a drink. \nThese sessions are super informal and friendly\, and a great opportunity to meet new folks in the creative arts community. Artists of any genre\, medium\, ability or experience level are welcome to come along\, but under 18s must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian due to this event being held on a licensed premises. \nA huge thank you to River Heights Trust for their generous support in helping us to cover expenses for these sessions. \nPlease note this session is not facilitated by a health professional\, and the information shared is based on personal experience. If you are experiencing burnout\, extreme exhaustion or detachment we recommend seeking professional support. \nR18. R.O.A.R. \n
