Come along to the Wednesday evening Ghana Grooves to experience the joy and exuberance of West African traditional music, drumming and dance performance. You will be amazed by the energy of Kofi Shabba (Ghana), Kofi Kunkpe (Ghana) and Koffie Fugah (Ghana) – three master drummers and dancers from Ghana. This will be a special night to enjoy the real traditional music and dance from these amazing artists.
About the main performers
Kofi Shabba is a professional dancer and drummer from Ghana. His experience in both traditional and modern dance has seen him performing and teaching around the world since 2004. Currently he is based in Australia where he shares his love of dance, drumming and culture through workshops and performances throughout Australia with African Star Dance and Drumming.
Kofi Kunkpe is an educator and multi-instrumentalist from Cape Coast in Ghana. This drumming master has traveled throughout Ghana, Burkina Faso, and New York impressing audiences with his outstanding skills. Since 2012, he has performed and taught extensively throughout Australia in schools, universities, at private functions, major festivals and events. Passionate about his culture, Kofi Kunkpe enjoys working with all ages and abilities.
Koffie Fugah is a professional African drumming and dance instructor and performer. Growing up in Ghana, where traditional music and dance was part daily life, he undertook professional African dance and drumming training in Accra, the capital of Ghana. He has taught and performed African dance and drumming for 15 years both in Ghana and abroad. Since 2013, Koffie Fugah has been based in Dunedin, traveling New Zealand sharing his energy and passion for traditional West African drum and dance with drumming groups, workshops and performances nationwide.
