For immediate release:
A music event like very few others.
Meeting in the middle: A Nelson duo drives south, a Dunedin songwriter drives north, and they meet a couple of Canterbury residents for one night only at Space Academy on June 26th.
Nelson duo Neon Cowboys (Keeli Ferris and Ryan Beehre [ex-Minuit]) are heading south, while long serving Dunedin songwriter darryl baser is heading north to meet Christchurch dwellers Madeleine Howard and Daniel Madill, providing a charismatic quartet of acts meeting in the middle at Space Academy.

Bio info for the acts performing
Neon Cowboys perform with backing from ‘Maschine’, Ryan Beehre plays guitar, and singer Keeli Ferris adds her fantastic vocals.
Both members of the Nelson based duo have experience in the industry, with Ryan Beehre being a founder of Minuit which ran from 1988 to 2014.
Hawkes Bay Singer Songwriter Madeleine Howard infuses her pop folk songs with lyrics which pull on the heart strings. She says, “as they’re woven around catchy melodies”. In August 2020 she released her debut EP ‘Just Reaching Out’ to critical acclaim.
Daniel Madill creates garage folk songs for the modern fears: days spent at tills and the swapping of bills (surviving working in the often fraught retail sector by day). It’s a big sounding psych-folk and blues mash. Howlin’ Wolf, Arthur Lee and Gene Clarke are his holy trinity.
He’s played shows from one end of the long white cloud to the other, sharing the stage with the likes of The Eastern, The Tattle Tale Saints, Luckless and Tacoma Mould.
He is also working on a full-length album due out later this year, as well as his electronic folk project, Cosmic Computer.
Madill cut his musical teeth in Dunedin on a guitar his uncle made, and his father once played. He gigged on the local indie circuit for a few years before shifting up the road to Christchurch in 2014.
darryl baser has been based in Otepoti Dunedin since 1993, and has released a cassette in ’95, a 7” in ’97, and Powertools records released his debut CDep in 2013. His debut lp Raw Selfie was released on vinyl through Zelle Records and Powertools in 2015. baser self-released his second album, Second selfie on CD in 2020, right at the end of lockdown. He’s currently working towards a new EP, set to feature an international collaboration or two. He says, “I’ll tell those at Space Academy what the EP is set to be called, and they’ll know before anyone else, except those closest to me.”
Doors at 8pm, music from 8:30 Presales from UTR $15 (excluding BF) Door sales if available $15 unwaged, $20 waged.
