SUMMARY:Plucky Sundays Ft. Opawa 45s + Pyyrhic + Meri Rose
DESCRIPTION:Melted Ice Cream endorses PLUCK SUNDAYS (vol.4!)\nFeaturing\n* Opawa 45’s\n* Pyyrhic\n* Meri Rose \n*Guaranteed to disappoint\, The Opawa 45s are a genre-fluid band centered around a guitar-slinging duo who can’t make up their minds. Moving between surf-guitar standards\, kraut rock\, drone\, and country and western\, the Opawa 45s are more interested in certain sounds\, mostly emanating from the 3rd quarter of the twentieth century. First hitting the airwaves with their ’Sleepwalk 17’ seven-inch in 2017\, their double LP ‘St Martin’s New World’ is now available from Ilam Press Records \n*Pyrrhic is the harrowing mind of a young girl in adolescence. Seeing herself within the stories of Icarus and drawing inspiration from deep religious imagery – this is a powerful act that connects and affects audiences.Watch her debut acoustic performance on June 19th as she creates a whole new world inside Space Academy \n*Meri Rose was born and raised in Christchurch\, growing up surrounded by instruments from a musical family. Starting from the womb\, whilst her mother played violin in the National New Zealand Youth Orchestra. Bands such as Von Voin Strum\, Weaponized\, PPK\, Pistol Grip\, Psych Emergency and more\, have been part of the soundtrack of Meris childhood. She and her father Steve\, formed Doom Shanka – a daddy-daughter duo. They entered the RDU Band Comp while Meri was aged six\, and being the youngest contestant\, utilised a block on the kick pedal for her to reach. They returned two years later\, making it into the semi finals at Arcadia. Since then\, Doom Shanka have played at The Wunderbar\, The Loons\, Eruption\, and even supported Earth Tongue at the Darkroom. At age nine she put out a CD of Yann Tierson piano pieces from the Amelie soundtrack.\nSince picking up the guitar at 10 \, she has put out three EPs\, two original and one being covers.\nNow being a multi instrumentalist at fourteen\, Meri Rose continues to write and record her own music with dark beautiful harmonies and fingerpicking guitar. You can find her music on Youtube\, Bandcamp and soundcloud. \nDoors 7pm\nMusic 7.30 \n
