SUMMARY:Somebody Do Something & Pyrrhic
DESCRIPTION:SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING shot into the Christchurch music scene in 2020\, and have since paved a way for themselves across the motu with their unique set up and genre-bending live shows. They draw on the bands backgrounds of classical\, metal\, jazz and pop to create the SDS soundworld of soul-fuelled\, funky alt-rock and R&B. \nLeading the group with delicious husky vocals is Marlee Spear\, hailing from Portland Oregon. The band weaves together violin\, sax\, spine-tingling harmonies and lush liquid grooves to create a truly singular musical experience. \nSince their first EP in 2020\, the band have released their debut album\, ‘As Rome Burns’\, and live-tracked EP ‘Archives’ created at the iconic kiwi establishment\, The Mussel Inn\, north of Takaka. After 9 months of performing in festival line ups including GO LIVE\, Ōtautahi Smoke\, Rolling Meadows\, and AUM; the group is stoked to be in a composing and recording phase for a fresh release in October 2024. \n“This is the closest we will get to 21st Century sophisti-pop…this compact EP is an impressive debut from Somebody Do Something and shows plenty of glimpses of the sound they have been perfecting on stage…this EP represents an admirable take-off point for an exciting collective of musicians…an absolute banger of a song” – Sam Smith (NZ Musician) \n– SDS Recent Highlights:\n2024: Headlining the Blue Stage at GO LIVE at the Christchurch Town Hall\n2023: Rolling Meadows\, AUM\, OHO and Ōtautahi Smoke Festival Lineups\n2023: ‘Archives’ EP Live-tracked at the iconic Mussell Inn in Onekaka\n2023: ‘As Rome Burns’ Album released\n2023: Nationwide tours of North and South Islands \nSDS will be joined by local band Pyrrhic. \nPyrrhic is the harrowing mind of a young girl in adolescence.
