Sonia Wilson & Nigel Gavin: well-loved folk duo sharing musical joy across the country

October 10, 2021 @ 7:30 pm NZDT

$20

Sonia & Nigel are an acoustic duo featuring French-American Parisienne Sonia Wilson on vocals and ukulele and musician and composer Nigel Gavin on his 7-string guitar. After meeting and playing together for the first time at the Whare Flat Folk festival in Dunedin during Sonia’s first visit to New Zealand on a solo round the world trip in December 2014, the pair have since become a well-loved duo in the folk music scene both in Auckland where they live and on tour around the country.
Weaving French, Kiwi and American folk songs in with their original compositions and inspiration from their travels around the world, Sonia & Nigel will take you on an authentic, vulnerable and uplifting journey of joy, nature, humour, love, connection, nostalgia, celebration, harmony, travel and imagination.
Sonia & Nigel were recently on a national (Arts on Tour) tour of New Zealand with their band GITBOX REBELLION (www.gitboxrebellion.nz/) when the lockdown hit. They spent an unexpectedly seafood-rich month on Stewart Island then have been traveling around the South Island to share music in schools and smaller communities. Their most recent performance was at the first Kaikoura Ukulele festival where they received a standing ovation.
Earlier this year they recorded their first duo album of French music produced by John Egenes in Dunedin.
