SUMMARY:South For Winter - Southern Lights Tour
DESCRIPTION:South For Winter – Dreamy acoustic duets\, bluesy murder ballads and foot-stomping folk.\nTickets are available through The Little Andromeda \nBIO:\nWith a blend of dreamy acoustic duets\, foot-stomping folk and bluesy murder ballads\, New Zealand-formed and Nashville-based South for Winter’s sound is as eclectic as their origins. The act is comprised of New Zealander Nick Stone and Coloradan Dani Cichon\, and together the two multi-instrumentalists and songwriters combine elements such as percussive acoustic guitar\, resonator guitar\, mandolin\, suitcase stomp\, and effortless harmonies into a genre-bending sound described by American Songwriter as “impeccable”. \nSouth for Winter recorded their debut album Luxumbra with GRAMMY award-winning producer Matt Leigh. Luxumbra’s release\, coupled with the act’s captivating live performance\, has landed them accolades such as Official Artist at South by Southwest Music Festival in 2023\, Finalist for Best Group in the 2023 International Acoustic Awards\, Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance International in both 2022 and 2024\, Semi-Finalist in the 2022 International Songwriting Competition\, and “Most Wanted” Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Festival in 2018. South for Winter returned to the studio with Leigh in Summer 2022 with Leigh to record their upcoming sophomore album\, Of Sea and Sky. Soon afterward they reached over 140% of their crowdfunding goal to independently release the album\, which is officially due in Spring 2024. \nAround preparing for the album’s release\, South for Winter have been completing tours throughout the United States\, Europe\, New Zealand\, and Canada. \n

SUMMARY:Calexico - Feast Of Wire 20th Anniversary Tour
DESCRIPTION:BANISHED MUSIC & STRANGE NEWS TOURING PRESENT:\nCALEXICO\nFeast Of Wire 20th Anniversary NZ Tour – February 2024 \nFriday 9th February – Opera House\, Wellington\nSat 10th February – Loons\, Christchurch\nSun 11th February – Powerstation\, Auckland \nBanished Music Pre-Sale – Friday October 27th\, 10AM\nGeneral on sale – Monday October 30th\, 10AM\nTickets from www.banishedmusic.com \nBoy oh boy\, do we have some scorching hot news for you? Tucson\, Arizona’s favourite sons\, Calexico\, are finally making their long-awaited return to New Zealand to play three very special shows. \n“You see\, Calexico are amazing live. Not only is their material extraordinarily good\, but this is a band who clearly just dig playing…” – The Guardian \nHaving toured tirelessly across Europe and America throughout 2023 in support of the 20th anniversary of their seminal record Feast Of Wire\, the band have saved the best ‘til last and are headed our way again at long last. To celebrate this double decade milestone\, these shows will feature the album played in its entirety\, plus of course a generous handful of fan favourites to finish. \nAcross their illustrious career\, the charismatic core pairing of Joey Burns and John Convertino\, both formerly of cult act Giant Sand\, have earned a fevered following for their unique melting pot of country\, cinema noir\, desert jazz\, TexMex tango\, Latin rhythms\, and French chansons. Their 1998 album The Black Light and 2000’s Hot Rail saw their star rise\, but it was Feast of Wire that completed the trilogy of sorts\, and shot them into the musical stratosphere. \nCasting his mind back on the making of the album\, Joey says\, “I’m reminded of how much time and space we had in the studio to try out all sorts of ideas. Most of the recordings started like they often do with John on drums and myself on guitar. And as we brought in the other band members it was like a river was flooding through our subconsciousness and we couldn’t get the ideas to analog tape fast enough.“ \nWhile musically\, there’s nothing quite like it\, there’s also a meaningful lyrical thread running through Feast of Wire. The tales woven here concern themselves with the lives of those attempting to make their way north of the Mexican-American border to safety\, a plight that the band acknowledges has only worsened in recent years. \nThese three shows\, happening this February at Wellington’s beautiful Opera House\, Christchurch’s favourite venue Loons\, and Auckland’s finest\, The Powerstation\, are set to be momentous occasions\, celebrating an album that has a tight and enduring grip on so many of our music-loving hearts. \n

SUMMARY:Crumpled - Sweat Vol. II Ft. Hurricane Emily
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\nAfter great success with the inaugural Crumpled gig at Flux\, Productive Sweat Vol.II will continue to establish the Crumpled sound and shine light on talent within the New Zealand electronic music scene. Fun\, Authenticity & Endurance are front and center of the sonic values. These values come through in the type of music to expect – something danceable\, energetic and not too serious – whilst still residing within the four walls of House music. \n  \nHurricane Emily is the alias of Pōneke based DJ Emily Janus. Since her return to the city that raised her\, she has been carving out her space within the dance music community; appearing on numerous line-ups and featuring as a regular at the capital’s favorite basement – Club 121. Hurricane Emily is synonymous with hard-house steppers\, electro wigglers\, cowgirl-breaks and rave euphoria. Emily has also been working behind-the-scenes on launching a new collective\, Universal Underground. Focusing on facilitating artist development through free / koha DJ/production lessons\, the collective will live as a space for women and gender non-conforming individuals. Rising with finesse\, Hurricane Emily is carving out her space within the Aotearoa music scene. Dress to sweat. \nŌtautahi resident Joyce is known for her diverse sets and genre blends. With passion towards her track lists for every set\, she knows how to get a crowd moving. Joyce is known for playing a multitude of genres in her 2023 sets and will continue this onwards. \nJoyce (Anna Clinch) is one half of Crumpled and aims to push the sound\, energy and values that herself and Max Rodhouse set out to establish. \nTikka made her DJ debut at the end of 2022 and has since played for a number of club nights including Haven\, Way.pnt\, Echotrains and Sugar & Spice. As Tangata Whenua\, Tikka is here to show you “how we do” and hopes to inspire other young rangatahi to pursue their creative dreams. As a multi-genre artist\, Tikka can only describe their sound as fast-paced and bass-weighted\, but their mix collection shows nothing is really off limits. Tikka has had the pleasure of playing alongside the likes of Coco Bryce\, DJ Fuckoff\, Nite Fleit and Dr Dubplate. Crumpled warmly welcomes the lineup and dancers to Productive Sweat Vol.II – 10th of February at Flux. \n  \nDJ’s \nJoyce \nTikka \nHurricane Emily \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:FULL SPECTRUM 003 feat. Zed Bias
DESCRIPTION:Hide presents: FULL SPECTRUM 003\nJoin us for a night of dancing through the electronic music spectrum featuring UK Garage pioneer Zed Bias alongside a stacked local support across 2 zones including:\nDownstairs:\nEyes Down + Losfix\, Dj Decay & Indecisive\nUpstairs (attic rave):\nThanks\, Kravis\, Rydr & Trivial + guests\n$15 on the door before 11pm\, $20 after\nZed Bias:\n“For well over two decades\, shattering stylistic standards has been his trademark\, as he builds on whatever base takes his fancy – house\, UK garage\, dancehall\, funk\, broken beat\, dubstep\, dub reggae and so on – then shifts that particular piece of music into areas that are never less than surprising. Zed is incapable of doing it any other way\, as he believes such perpetual motion is a natural by-product of today’s studio environment that positively encourages new ideas and the overturning of convention.”\nLloyd Bradley\, author of “Bass Culture : When Reggae was King” and “Sounds like London : 100 years of Black Music in the Capital”.\nDave Jones\, better known as ZED BIAS\, is a MOBO Nominated Music producer\, arranger\, remixer\, guest lecturer\, and DJ\, based in Manchester\, UK.\nEarly in his career\, Bias released a flurry of well received tracks\, such as “Strong Enough to Survive”\, “All night Jam”\, ”Standard Hoodlum Issue”\, “Crazy” by 7 Wonders\, “Been here before” and “In your mind”.\nZed Bias is best known for his single “Neighbourhood” which reached #25 in the UK Singles chart in July 2000\, on LOCKED ON / XL recordings. The track created a large underground response from late 1999 in its original version\, which was recently included in the soundtrack of the 2021 movie “People Just Do Nothing : BIG IN JAPAN”. The song\, featuring the vocals of MC Rumpus and Nicky Prince\, is still widely regarded as a UKG Anthem.\nFrom the start of his career\, continuously until present day\, Zed Bias has been engaged in remixing duties for a huge number of well known artists. Naming just a few of over two hundred artists he’s remixed for\, are Whitney Houston\, Slum Village\, Pharaohe Monch\, Missy Elliot\, MJ Cole\, Sticky\, Tubby T\, Roy Davis Jr\, Steve Arrington\, C+C Music Factory\, Sa-Ra Creative Partners\, Gabrielle\, Arthur Baker\, Joey Negro\, Omar\, The Streets\, Disclosure\, Jessie Ware\, Matt Bianco\, Riz MC\, Rita Ora\, Azymuth\, Chakademus and Pliers\, Example\, Chase and Status\, Ms Dynamite\, Mary J Blige\, De la soul\, Karen Harding\, DJ Zinc\, and more recently\, Bad Boy Chiller Crew\, Secret Night Gang and DJ Luck & MC Neat have all had the Zed treatment.\nBias’ releases\, which explore a more experimental or progressive side of the 2 step garage sound (sometimes described as ‘dark-swing’) have been hailed as a crucial element in the establishment of Dubstep\, as a definable sound or genre. He was one of the original resident DJ’s at the infamous club\, FWD>>\, the East London birthplace of Dubstep culture. Since then Bias has toured the world both as a DJ and a guest lecturer for Red Bull Music Academy.\n
