DESCRIPTION:The music of Franco-American singer-songwriter Tess Liautaud can not be easily defined. It hangs in the balance of her voice\, warm like honey; it carries a depth of raw emotion\, delivered with melodic grace and country soul. \nHer songs are easy listening\, in that Jackson Browne\, dreaming of Laurel Canyon\, Americana sort of way\, so it would make some kind of sense that she’s found a home on the east side of Ōtautahi\, among the folk singers and the rock’n’rollers. \nTogether with her band (Adam Hattaway\, Frankie Daly\, Elmore Jones and Michael Kime) Liautaud creates a sound steeped in classic Wilco ‘esque’ guitar twang\, good old honky tonk piano and big organ washes. This is music that will grow roots in your heart and lift you up\, the way it is supposed to. \nTess cut her teeth in the Paris music scene for the better part of a decade\, honing her live performances and endearing herself to the hearts of audiences and fellow musicians alike. She has toured in Ireland and places beyond and eventually curiosity led her to Aotearoa in 2019. Burgeoning friendships and collaborations swayed her to stay and now two albums and four years deep she has become an endeared part of our musical landscape. As well as leading her own band Tess sings and plays with Adam Hattaway and The Haunters\, The Eastern and The Sweet Sweet Nothings. \nLiautaud recorded her debut\, self-titled album in Kurow at Sublime Studios. A collection of songs that are an ode to change\, reflection\, nature\, saying goodbye\, and the grief that follows. ”This journey is a long one\, as all journeys turn out to be\, you never really arrive\, but along the way\, a lot is bound to change. The shows are mainly happening in community halls as we’re trying something new out beyond the songs. \nThere’s timings on the map (except for the festival shows) so if you’re coming you’ll need to arrive at that time or before. We’ll watch the sun go down\, then we’ll go in\, shut the doors and perform. \nThese shows’ll be small\, intimate things\, sometimes on the ground\, sometimes standing\, hopefully hovering. DESCRIPTION:Dave Flynn is an award-winning Irish composer and musician\, praised as a masterful guitarist in Sing Out! Magazine. \nIn his show ‘Celtic Guitar Journey’ he presents beautiful guitar arrangements of Irish and Scottish traditional music\, exploring the musical connections between these ‘Celtic’ countries. His programme goes through the history of Celtic music\, from an ancient Irish battle march\, to baroque-era harp music by Turlough O’Carolan\, to 19th century reels and jigs and then some more modern compositions that he recorded on his acclaimed albums. \nThere’s also some new Irish-style tunes composed in New Zealand which represent new kind of traditional Irish-Kiwi music. \nThe concert also highlights connections between Irish traditional music and other countries\, showing how certain types of Irish tune styles were imported from England\, Scotland\, Poland and Germany. \nA magical concert of guitar music new and ancient! \nThis event is kindly supported by Culture Ireland \nReserve your seats here: https://www.trybooking.com/nz/QMI \nDoors open 7pm.
