SUMMARY:Martin Sagadin - Martin iz Zgornje Bele - Album Announcement Show
DESCRIPTION:Martin Sagadin’s debut solo album weaves together their Slovenian roots with Aotearoa’s rich folk music scene. Martin iz Zgornje Bele refers to the village Martin grew up in\, and the album transports the listener to a pastoral but deeply internal space\, casting a meditative and emotionally charged spell. \nAn album announcement show is to take place at Space Academy in Ōtautahi Christchurch\, as Martin’s first headlining show with support from Georgia Knight. \nThe album was produced by Brooke Singer (French for Rabbits) and features Ben Lemi (Trinity Roots\, Bret McKenzie) and Xanthe Rook (recitals) on the clarinet\, Liz Stokes (The Beths) on flugelhorn and Charlotte Forrester (Womb) on cello\, making it a completely unique sounding collection of songs. It was picked up by BaDaBing! Records in New York\, while Melted Ice Cream will release it in NZ and Australia. \nYou may already know Martin Sagadin from their work on some of the most beloved music videos to come out of Aotearoa\, including luminaries such as Aldous Harding\, Marlon Williams\, Nadia Reid\, The Bats\, Tiny Ruins and many more. \n

SUMMARY:Adrenochrome Babies\, Slightly Imperfect\, Carne Verde
DESCRIPTION:Adrenochrome Babies are back… \nAfter a busy couple of months of recording and fighting off systemically induced malaise\, we’re looking forward to performing live again for the first time in 2025 and bringing you more of that internet-rotted\, drug-addled\, spoken word mania you know and love. \nCompleting the lineup on this musically varied evening will be the poly-rhythmic musings of CARNE VERDE and the surreal folk duo Slightly Imperfect. \nCARNE VERDE –\nCARNE VERDE is the malformed brainchild of percussionist extraordinaire Doug Brush and bass iconoclast Mike Fud Fudakowski\, refining their regular role as the backbone of Rhomboid and Berlin Burlesque into something far stranger. With a penchant for lush tones and bizarre textures with eye-watering polyrhythms\, this duo will have you wondering where beat one has gone. Come and explore the cinematic sci-fi prog fusion jazz funk world of Carne Verde! \nSlightly Imperfect –\n‘Slightly Imperfect’ introduces audiences to the strange\, wonderful and beautiful world of Scottish poet\, writer and songwriter Ivor Cutler. Ivor Cutler was born in Glasgow 1923\, the bus driver on the Beatle’s Magical Mystery Tour\, who preferred to bike around London communicating by sticking up printed sticky labels with ‘Cutlerism’ including ‘kindly disregard’ and ‘slightly imperfect’ – the name taken by Greg Malcolm and Jenny Ward. \nR18 R.O.A.R. \n

SUMMARY:Haven: Boris (de // Berghain) // Keepsakes B2b The Rat // Mapmaker
DESCRIPTION:With the sun disappearing and the cold season setting in HAVEN are here to tempt you in to the warm embrace of the Galaxy Arcade for a special sweat session with one of our most beloved international artists… \nIt is our pleasure to invite Berghain resident and Berlin queer icon BORIS back to the arcade floor after his Ōtautahi debut with us last year. Influenced equally by the industrial club-land of Berlin and the joy and community of legendary NYC clubs Paradise Garage and The Loft\, his playful style and infectious energy have earned him an international following in the queer scene and beyond. His scorching techno sets have led to long-term residencies at the likes of Faust Soul\, House of Mince in Sydney\, and at his home-base of Berghain. Anyone who caught his set last year knows how special this will be – no one knows how to whip a dance-floor in to euphoria quite like Boris!! \nKick-starting the floor for the evening we have Mapmaker – who’s recent sets at the likes of TwoMinds Festival and the Utopia Pride closing party have been 2025 local musical highlights for HAVEN HQ – alongside a b2b from residents The Rat and Keepsakes. \nHigh quality audio provided by 03 legends Subtle Sound System… \nFREE EXPRESSION ENCOURAGED // COME AS YOU ARE\, ACCEPT AS THEY COME \nIN ALPHABETICAL ORDER: \nBORIS (DE // BERGHAIN)\nKEEPSAKES B2B THE RAT\nMAPMAKER \n9pm-2am // Friday May 23rd // Galaxy Bar\, 206 Barbadoes St \nRespect the venue\, respect the DJs\, and respect your fellow dancers.
