SUMMARY:Hide presents: Calyx
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT CALYX: For 25 years\, Calyx has forged an unprecedented path at the forefront of Drum and Bass. In his first decade as a solo artist\, he had already amassed an astounding back-catalogue spanning most of the genre’s seminal labels. After teaming up with TeeBee to form a duo in 2007\, the pair reached new heights with chart-topping singles and their acclaimed LPs: Anatomy\, All Or Nothing\, 1X1 and Plates. After winning numerous awards including Best Producer\, Best Single\, Best Album & Best Video; a near-constant run of radio plays led to the duo being asked to do a BBC Essential Mix – a true hall-of-fame moment for any artist in any genre. Their mix was then voted as one of the five nominees for Essential Mix of the Year. As Calyx reached the quarter-century mark in his DnB career\, he opened a new chapter by returning to his roots as a solo artist. His first release on Critical Music had an enormous impact on the DnB scene: Tempest & You Want It All topped Beatport and streaming charts after they had become mainstays in headliners’ sets across the DnB spectrum. His second release Pull Up & Feel The Sway followed suit and a summer packed with festival bookings lay ahead. His third release Cobra (ft Logan) & Riddim garnered widespread acclaim\, press & radio exposure and shot to the number 1 spot on Beatport in an incredible 3 days. 2024 witnessed new heights for Calyx with more chart-topping releases: House Breaker / Don’t Say Nothing\, Out & In (ft Chimpo) / In My Dark Place\, Tempest VIP and Never Alone all made a huge impact worldwide. The turn of the year saw 3 huge Calyx remixes taking the scene by storm – firstly a remix of the Mefjus classic Surrounded\, which was quickly followed by an anthemic remix of Skantia’s 2Drill. The Calyx remix of Break’s Don’t You Ever Stop is currently one of the hottest dubs in DnB ahead of its summer release. Following on from the trio of monster remixes\, Calyx has a stacked diary of club and festival shows whilst a mountain of new dubs are scheduled for release in the months ahead – no doubt 2025 is set to be yet another milestone year both for Calyx and Drum and Bass! \n

SUMMARY:Queer Horizons: Matariki Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening to celebrate Matariki\, as we immerse ourselves in the spirit of Tagata Moana art and community. We’ll be kicking off the night with a poetry evening\, soaking in the words of five Ōtautahi-based creatives as they set our hearts on fire and soothe our souls. Our three mīharo DJs will then guide us on a sonic journey through the stars and the swamplands\, bringing sounds that will get the mātenga bopping and the waewae stomping deep into the night. \nThis event is about slowing down\, and coming together to connect\, reflect and celebrate. We are here to uplift our Tangata Whenua\, Tagata Moana\, Takatāpui\, Irawhiti\, Queer and BIPOC whānau\, and honour the intersections and solidarity between our communities xx \nPOETS:\nDanielle O’Halloran\nJosiah Morgan\nJuanita Hepi\nKahu Tumai\nMona Vasa \nDJs:\nKōroto\nDoughboy\nRōrepo \nTicket options:\nTickets for the poetry evening include entry to the DJ gig. SUMMARY:Ned Collette (AUS)
DESCRIPTION:Australian Ned Collette got his start in experimental and improvised music\, before gravitating increasingly towards songwriting. His literate\, evocative songs are paired with music that’s both adventurous and eclectic\, and his albums exist inside a dynamic flux of folk\, jazz and avant rock. A dual New Zealand citizen\, many of his early performances in this vein actually occurred in Wellington in and around The Space and Happy scenes of the early 2000s. He has since gone on to release seven albums of uncompromising vision on a variety of international labels\, mostly out of his studio in Berlin\, where he has been based since 2010. \nCollette’s most recent album\, Our Other History\, was released late in 2024 on the US label Sophomore Lounge and features contributions from regular collaborators including Jim White and Mick Turner of the Dirty Three\, Chris Abrahams of The Necks\, the folk singer Leah Senior\, and other luminaries of adventurous music worldwide. His live performances drift between delicate\, intimate folk and explorative sonic jam-outs\, both when performing solo or in various band combinations. \nOver the years Collette has collaborated and toured with such artists as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy\, Joanna Newsom\, Cat Power\, Bill Callahan\, St Vincent\, Kurt Vile and Deerhoof\, amongst many others. Funny\, haunting and sad\, often all at once\, the music nonetheless manages to remain plain-spoken and uncluttered\, despite its expansive vision. \n“Ned’s music wears its modernity subtly and surely and is as rewarding a listening experience as I’ve come across in recent times.” – Will Oldham \n

SUMMARY:Ladi6 - Le VĀ - Album Release Tour
DESCRIPTION:Ladi6 returns with Le Vā – her long-awaited new album and most personal project to date. Years in the making\, Le Vā represents a creative reinvention and a recalibration of the signature wavey electronic soul sound she’s known for. It also marks a profound chapter of personal growth and healing.\nAt its heart\, Le Vā is a dedication to Ladi6’s beloved mother\, Fuarosa\, who passed in 2020. Her memory and spirit are woven through every note and lyric – the album standing as a tribute to her life\, her influence\, and the space her absence has created. Le Vā explores that sacred space between us – the seen and unseen\, what we carry and what we release\,” says Ladi6. “This project is both a farewell and a becoming.”\nTo celebrate the album\, Ladi6 will embark on the Le Vā Album Tour – a series of live shows that will bring the new project to life while revisiting iconic songs from her back catalogue. This tour is infused with gratitude – a thank you to the loyal community that has walked alongside her journey for over two decades. “We’ve curated a show that honours where we’ve come from and where we’re headed. It’s our way of saying thank you to everyone who has held us up through all the seasons.”\nLe Vā is a sonic offering of healing\, transformation\, and legacy. The album and tour together serve as an invitation: to feel\, to remember\, and to move forward – together.\nLadi6 is well known for her authentic and innovative approach to music. She draws inspiration from her own experiences and Moana heritage. Her unique sound and heartfelt lyrics resonate with listeners\, offering a refreshing perspective in the soul/pop/electronica genre.\nLadi6 is an iconic Aotearoa artist whose music reflects her penchant for emotional authenticity and visionary musical trend-bending. With a hip hop history as founding member of Aotearoa’s first all female hip hop crew\, Sheelahroc\, a passion for storytelling and a commitment to self-exploration\, Ladi6 makes a unique mark in the music industry\, gaining a loyal following and critical acclaim. \n
