SUMMARY:Diesel Jenny x Synthetic Children - 'Backroom Smooches' Tour
DESCRIPTION:Diesel Jenny and Synthetic Children announce ‘Backroom Smooches’ tour \nTwo of Aotearoa’s most rungle hardware acts are joining forces for a mid-winter tour across the country this July. Armed with new releases and a reckless lack of MIDI cables\, longtime pals Synthetic Children and Diesel Jenny are packing gear into the whip for a trip up and down the motu.\nThe six-date tour will see the pair serve up their respective dishes in Ōtautahi\, Ōtepoti\, Tāmaki Makaurau\, Pōneke\, Te Papaioea\, and Whanganui. Joined by local favourites\, the tour will bring the sounds of provincial Aotearoa to the big smoke. To pair will also make a special stop in at the legendary Tūrangi dairy ‘Sanjay’s Selection’\, to spin some tunes through the most bass boosted speakers in the Waikato. \nVia hardware synths and drum machines\, Synthetic Children (Te Papaioea’s Celina Goacher) is bringing bubbly synths\, auto-tuned vulnerabilities\, and sub-rattling beats. Her latest Smooch EP\, and appearance on the Big Fresh Collective’s Footmahi compilation\, show an emerging fun side to her dancefloor arsenal\, following the murky weight of 2023’s Everything’s Perpetual. Donnys worldwide have heralded the new release as a “freshly cooked 3 course meal\, served up by Palmy’s premier snack pack herself”. Think wonky hyperpop with plenty of low end. \nDiesel Jenny’s (Pōneke’s Josh Finegan) live set will blend brain-breaking breaks with sugar-rush synths and 3D club energy years. This tour will celebrate the inaugural release of Diesel Jenny’s white label series with a rock-solid RUC-exempt two-tracker. With multiple releases on underground mainstays Big Fresh Collective and Bankrupt Records as ABG\, this isn’t the first time Diesel Jenny’s revved the engine. \nDiesel Jenny and Synthetic Children ‘Backroom Smooches’ Tour:\n4 July – Ōtautahi – Flux* (with BWD)\n5 July – Ōtepoti – Yours (supports TBA)\n11 July – Tūrangi – Sanjay’s Selection (DJ sets b2b Skymning)\n12 July – Tāmaki Makaurau – Audio Foundation (with Baby Zionov)\n17 July – Pōneke – Valhalla (with Ekho Lahlia)\n18 July – Te Papaioea – Snails (with Club Tremaine\, Cradle)\n19 July – Whanganui – Porridge Watson (with Alphabethead\, Club Tremaine)\nTickets available from undertheradar.co.nz *Tickets from flicket.co.nz \n

SUMMARY:Adrenochrome Babies\, Les Fuzz Minou\, Sentient Mud\, Toronja
DESCRIPTION:Come beat the winter blues with a multi-genre Friday night session at the Darkroom. Otautahi chaos incarnate Adrenochrome Babies will be joined by sonic practitioners Les Fuzz Minou\, banjo punk officiando’s Sentient Mud\, and multi-disciplinary electronic artist Toronja\, who’ll be laying down some lush soundscapes to set the scene. Gonna be a beautiful evening ? \nAdrenochrome Babies – half manic\, socially-conscious word vomit set against a backdrop of dystopian sonic musings. Could progressive punk be considered a genre; or is that just blatantly pretentious…\, maybe? You decide. \nLes Fuzz Minou – Les Fuzz Minou Ōtautahi’s 5th favourite underground noise-rock band requires $5\,000\,000\,000 in unmarked bills or else they’ll have to play their music again. SUMMARY:Tom Roud For Council - Campaign Launch Gig
DESCRIPTION:Runtimes: \n7.30pm – 8pm: Meet & Greet with the Candidate\n8pm – 8.30pm: pickledarling\n8:30pm – 9pm: Speeches from Tom & from the Alliance Party\n9pm: this dog\n9.45 – late: The Eastern \nDetails: \nTom Roud (known in the local music scene as 1/4 of Model Home) is running for Christchurch City Council! \nI’m a library worker and union delegate and have been working in the central city for the last seven years. I grew up in Christchurch and my family has roots in Woolston going back to the 1880s. I’m also a local musician\, having played in Christchurch bands for the last 15 years.\nOur city can be a great place to live\, but only if it’s a great place to live for everyone. We’ve had a great opportunity to rebuild our city\, now it’s time to make sure we don’t leave anyone behind in the Christchurch of the 21st century. The central city is where so many of us live\, work\, and socialise – we all have a stake in the central ward thriving. \nWe need a democratic\, proactive local government that invests in its community – a council that hears from ordinary people\, not just well-connected big business. One that builds and maintains quality infrastructure and service delivery\, that is governed democratically and transparently\, that retains and expands the assets that the people of Christchurch own collectively\, and one that values social equality and an economy that lifts all boats. We need a city that works for working people. \nLocal music is really important to me\, and the local venues that have kept it alive since the earthquakes are essential for so many of us. Almost all of my political connections have started through music\, and almost everything I know about organising has started with organising gigs. Part of why I am running is to make sure local music and local venues have a serious advocate to protect this essential part of Christchurch culture and nightlife. So what better way to kick things off than with a gig including some of my favourite musicians in the city? \n
