SUMMARY:Kāwai Sound System Presents: Whenua Step 1!
DESCRIPTION:ROOTS – DANCEHALL – JUNGLE \nWhenua Step is a sound system dance built by the next generation of youngins in Ōtautahi. This is off the shoulders of the innovation of carribean music + influence\, featuring roots\, dancehall\, and jungle. \nRooted in the traditions of sound system culture while grounded in Aotearoa\, this session brings together selectors and dancers for a night where the music is played the way it’s meant to be heard: inclusive\, communal\, and intentional. \nWe look forward to taking you through the journey of music that means the most of us as the crew\, honouring the legacy and trailblazing of early carribean activists + artists as well as the later effects on the population of Aotearoa\, giving voices and frequencies that empower and connect. Following this\, we test the limits of our rig through the heavy pressure of dancehall bassline + whine. To finish off\, we acknowledge the bridge + connection between Reggae and UK Bass through the heavy pace of junglist riddims. \nWhenua Step is a mihi aroha to the influences of both Jamaican + UK sound system culture. We use this night to acknowledge\, connect\, and skank together as people of Ōtautahi. \nThis has always been deeper than the music. This is history + people. Together as one. \nSTRICTLY $10 ONLINE + AT THE DOOR. \nKOHA IS OPEN TO SUPPORT THE VENUE + TEAM. \nKĀ MIHI NUI. \nBRING YA MUM + DAD. SUMMARY:Swamp Meet Single Release - w/ Evergreen Terrace and Plastic Manor
DESCRIPTION:Swamp Meet are back\, releasing their debut single as a fully formed band and performing live at Darkroom on the 18th of April for their 2nd headlining show \nSWAMP MEET is a riffy\, hard-hitting\, chorus-loving grunge band based in Ōtautahi\, made up of 3 guys from small and rainy Westport. Inspired by rock through the ages\, such as (mainly) Nirvana\, Black Sabbath\, and AC/DC. \nAfter a couple of years now under their belts\, the guys are feeling at home and are inviting you to get filthy with: \nEvergreen Terrace – On the heavier side of things\, Evergreen Terrace brings an emotional intensity fueled by big guitars and heartfelt songwriting\, with the kind of songs that hit even harder live. Inspired by the energy and vibe of bands like Scowl\, Joyce Manor\, and Modern Baseball\, taking a mix of midwest emo\, melodic hardcore\, and pop punk to create their sound. \nPlastic Manor – To put it simply\, Plastic Manor is a noisy indie band fusing post-punk and shoegaze into a delectable aural soup \nR18.
