DESCRIPTION:Surfing USSR: James Bond on mescaline\, Surf versions of Eastern Europe folk and anything else they feel like dealing to. \nComprising the talents of Greg Malcolm on guitar\, Marc Howe on bass and Joe McCallum on drums\, Surfing USSR draw upon a diverse range of musical genres in their interpretation of Eastern European Melodies. \nTheir versions stylistically range from Exotica to bad trip psychedelic freak-outs. \nSurfing USSR’s authenticity was recently questioned after a media leak revealed that only one band member really surfs however their popularity has not been affected. \nTheir debut CD ‘Surferdelic’ features many of the songs that made them famous after modifying their show based on the many suggestions received in their suggestion box throughout their tumultuous career. \nTHE BAND \nGreg Malcolm\, a distinguished experimental guitarist from Christchurch\, New Zealand\, is celebrated for his innovative approach to the instrument. His 2021 album\, Just Like Jim\, showcases his unique style\, blending traditional rembetika and klezmer influences with avant-garde techniques. \nDrummer Joe McCallum A gregarious and energetic musician equally at home playing improvised music as alt-Country AND Western music. \nMarc Howe A fantatic bass player with a lovely “feel”.
