SUMMARY:Darkroom Fundraiser Gig - Model Home\, Karleshia\, Guideless
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to a gig to help support the future of live music in Ōtautahi Christchurch! \nCome celebrate PC21’s progress and show some love for Darkroom on Thurs July 2nd\, with local faves Model Home\, Guideless and Karleshia taking to the stage!\nOur local venue operators have been working with Christchurch City Council since 2022 towards updating the noise rules in our city. Progress is positive but slow going\, and the best way to support our precious venues in the meantime\, is simply by showing up to gigs\, to help make sure they’re still around when/if PC21 is finally officially implemented! \nThurs July 2nd at Darkroom\n7pm doors\, music from 7:30pm\nTickets from UTR \nR18. R.O.A.R. \nTicket sales will go to support Darkroom and their ongoing advocacy work in pushing for this essential plan change. Feather and Nick have given over 1000 unpaid hours towards PC21 over the past few years while also holding down day jobs and managing the day to day operations of Darkroom. Now the duo have been invited to speak at a conference in Auckland in August to share their learnings with other venue operators from around the motu who may also be looking to lobby their own Councils for change to protect live music. A modest speaker fee is offered\, but it’s not enough to cover the cost of flights. \nMore about PC21:\nThe Christchurch City Council are proposing changes to the District Plan’s rules about noise in the Central City\, particularly when it comes to live music\, entertainment\, and areas like St Asaph St\, where there is a mix of both residential buildings & commercial businesses. The Council is currently seeking public feedback on the proposed Central City Noise Plan Change (PC21)\, and the responses from members of the public will be used to inform the outcome. The proposed changes of PC21 will help to protect live music as more housing is built near our precious venues. To be at this stage of the process is another huge milestone\, after 4 years of hard work\, but there is still quite a way to go. Come down\, do your submission\, see some local music\, and support Darkroom by turning up now\, and helping them get through Winter so they’re still around when/if PC21 finally comes into effect! \nMake your submission here: letstalk.ccc.govt.nz/PC21\nSubmissions close July 18th \n

SUMMARY:The Veils - Fragile World Tour
DESCRIPTION:Following the critically acclaimed release of ‘Asphodels’ in 2025\, The Veils quickly return with a bold and invigorated new album titled ‘Fragile World’\, out June 19 on V2 Records. Today The Veils alongside Banished Music announce a 10-date New Zealand tour including 6 band shows featuring the closing show of Strange Universe: Winter in Auckland\, and 4 solo performances. \n“It feels right to start our Fragile World tour back home in dear Aotearoa. These are some of our favorite towns to play in on earth and we can’t think of a better way to dust off this moth-bitten black suit and hat and get the show on the road. Come along\, be merry\, and as always come up and say hi” says Finn Andrews. \nArriving just over a year after their last release\, ‘Fragile World’ marks a striking shift in tone and energy for the band. Recorded live to tape in New Zealand by Paddy Hill\, with production by Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins\, The Chills\, Folk Bitch Trio)\, ‘Fragile World’\, captures The Veils in an urgent and instinctive mode.\n‍ \nThe album’s title is both a reflection of the present moment – a time in which many institutions appear to be crumbling before our eyes – and a metaphor for the act of creation itself. The process of making music\, Andrews notes\, is a delicate and fragile undertaking where thousands of small decisions gradually coalesce into a finished whole. \n“We went into the studio with a lot of songs\, but very little idea of the arrangements or instrumentation. It was truly exciting having no idea what this record would sound like and only a few weeks to figure it out. It’s mostly Tom and I playing everything\, with Joseph McCallum coming in at times. It was all very instinctual\, quite full-on\, and scary at times – but a good kind of scary\, not scary like the real world out there.” \nWith its immediacy\, intensity\, and emotional clarity\, ‘Fragile World’ stands as one of The Veils’ most compelling releases to date. \n
