SUMMARY:Sunshine - Spirit Boy Single Release Feat. Sam Burt
DESCRIPTION:Hailing from Ōtautahi Christchurch\, Spirit Boy make music they love to listen to. \nWith a new three-track EP on the way\, Spirit Boy are gearing up for a busy year ahead. The next gig celebrates the release of the first single\, Sunshine\, a hot new addition to the fan favourites. \nLed by Ethan Mead’s commanding voice and heartfelt songwriting\, the band draw inspiration from Americana and folk artists of the 60s and 70s\, the earnestness of 80s new romanticism\, and the anthemic storytelling of modern artists like Sam Fender. The result is a sound that balances soaring indie-rock energy with deeply personal songwriting. \nFollowing the release of their debut album\, The Existential Hours\, last year\, Spirit Boy return with renewed purpose\, a refreshed lineup\, and a new collection of songs that signal the band’s next evolution: bigger melodies\, sharper songwriting\, and a renewed sense of identity. \nAt the heart of it all remains Mead’s knack for finding joy\, hope\, and connection in life’s complexities. The new lineup consists of Ethan Mead (vocals and guitar)\, Frankie Daly (keys)\, Shaun Burke (bass)\, Ben MacDonald (guitar)\, and Mason Head (drums). \nWith support from Spirit Boy alumnus Sam Burt. \n

SUMMARY:The Pete Flynn Project With The Kay Duncan Band
DESCRIPTION:Christchurch multi-genre originals band meets Nelson stomping indie folk as The Kay Duncan Band hosts The Pete Flynn Project at Wunderbar. \nThis is the PFP’s first foray south of their home town and they are excited to share their brand of indie/folk/rock. Imagine the love child of REM & Goldenhorse and you’ll get an idea of what’s in store – an eclectic but cohesive mix of rock\, folk and even the odd sea shanty thrown in. \nThe band is the evolution of Pete’s solo work which has earned him a solid reputation in the Nelson/Golden Bay area. Joined by Moc on bass\, Neal Bonner on guitar and Chris Head on drums\, the band draws from their backgrounds of jazz\, punk\, ska and folk to create a high-end blend of acoustic/electric sound overlayed with rich vocal harmonies. Front and centre is Pete’s thoughtful and evocative songwriting\, weaving stories that explore the human condition. \nThe Kay Duncan Band is a stalwart of the Christchurch scene. Kay’s songs are soulful\, abundant with emotive undercurrents. Honest songs of our days\, from a life lived\, articulating depth & connecting to the listener on many levels. Lyrics are narrative\, poetic & sometimes unconventional. Themes of love\, life\, loss\, longing & environment\, are poignant & trace memories of the past\, resonate with the present and carry within them messages for the future \nBacking her is a rock solid lineup of seasoned Christchurch players who deliver a vibrant and noteworthy performance\, brimming with energy\, intensity\, and fun. Their sound smoulders with groovy\, funky rhythms\, intriguing and sublime melodies\, and thought-provoking lyrics. \nA mix of genres and the refreshing diversity of their songs have inspired powerful creative contributions from each band member (Kay Duncan – vocals & acoustic guitar\, Guy Hobson – keyboard\, Geoff Cox – bass\, Jono Tressler – drums\, Rob Tate – lead guitar\, Mike Bickers – trumpet and muted trumpet) \n
