SUMMARY:Violet Hirst And Michael Llewellyn - Spring Duet
DESCRIPTION:Violet Hirst & Michael Llewellyn present ‘Spring Duet’ an intimate run of shows across Aotearoa. \nBorn and raised in Tāhuna Queenstown\, Violet’s musical journey began the day she was born: opening night of her mother’s musical Kitchens. Her songs and live performance embody the theatrics and ballads that surrounded her childhood. Quoted as one of Aotearoa’s “most quietly distinctive contemporary songwriters\,” (13th Floor) she gains comparisons to Aldous Harding and Julia Jacklin. Earning recognition on SRN and Radioscope scharts\, Violet has received wide support from Vice\, RNZ\, Flying Nun and Rolling Stone. Combining layered vocal melodies with meditative rhythms and poignant lyrics from a young woman\, Violet’s songs showcase a unique artist at work. \nMichael Llewellyn is a songwriter from Te Whanganui-a-Tara\, Aotearoa\, known for raw lyricism\, magnetic live performances\, and emotionally vivid storytelling. Drawing from indie rock n roll\, alternative folk\, and poetic balladry\, his songs have earned support from RNZ\, Rolling Stone AU/NZ\, NZ Student Radio\, and audiences across New Zealand. He has shared stages with Marlon Williams\, The Veils\, Fazerdaze\, and French For Rabbits\, and is currently preparing the release of his third studio album ‘Strange Horses’. \n

SUMMARY:Yujing Cui
DESCRIPTION:Originally from China\, now settled in Christchurch / Ōtautahi\, Yujing presents a musical journey between East and West\, between traditional and modern\, between the familiar and the faraway… \nYujing plays the pipa\, a traditional Chinese instrument with a history dating back over 2\,000 years. She plays ancient melodies on this instrument\, while also exploring how its voice can reach into modern indie folk and rock. \nYujing writes and sings songs that express her thoughts and perspectives\, shaped by a time of rapid change in China. She appreciates the curiosity audiences show towards her culture and the society she grew up in\, as well as their gentle and respectful approach. She is open to connecting with audiences through the stories behind her songs\, the social context behind them\, and her own observations and reflections. \nHaving shared this journey with audiences at the Whare Flat Folk Festival last year\, where she received wonderful responses and heart-warming words\, Yujing is now excited to bring this thoughtfully crafted performance to her friends at the Christchurch Folk Club. \n
