Young Moon head to the legendary Space Academy with support from Violet French and The Horrible.
Young Moon is heading out on their Orbiting Islands tour this August and September, playing seven shows across the South Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand. The tour follows the release of their double E.P Paraverbal Orchids / Young Moon Is a Broken Bone on HOME ALONE, and brings their thoughtful, atmospheric sound to intimate venues around the motu.
Young Moon began as the solo project of American songwriter Trevor Montgomery, now based in Nelson. Over the past decade, Young Moon has released music through respected indie labels Western Vinyl (J Tillman, Dirty Projectors) and Orindal Records (Advance Base, Julia Byrne, Cass McCombs), including albums like Navigated Like the Swan, Colt and the beautiful 2023 release Triggered by Sunsets. Their style—described as “Cloud Gaze”—blends ambient textures, slow-burning melodies, and introspective lyrics.
This tour offers a chance to hear new material alongside highlights from their back catalogue. Whether you’re familiar with their discography or discovering them for the first time, Young Moon’s live shows offer a sonic bath of synths, shoegaze guitars, and soulful voice.
Violet French and The Horrible:
It all began in Dunedin, and it all made sense in Christchurch. Writing songs with authority and a sure handle on the nuances of her craft. Her guitar playing swings and her lyrics argue for a personality which is sharp, sympathetic and observes the poetry in small moments. Her songs serve as sardonic litanies to the soul sucking, crushing minutiae of the everyday. She waits for no man.
